The 20th Taicang Rothenburg Beer Carnival Opens!

On August 26, 2025, the 20th Taicang Rothenburg Beer Carnival kicked off with great enthusiasm. Guests from China and abroad gathered at the Rothenburg-themed street along the Haiyundi, using beer as a medium to foster friendships and explore cooperation. Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Lucas Meyer, Deputy Consul General of the German Consulate General in Shanghai; Mr. Jonathan Schoo, Vice President of the AHK Greater China; Mr. Christian Sommer, Chairman and CEO of the German Centre; Mr. Xu Huadong, Deputy Secretary of the Taicang Municipal Party Committee and Mayor; Mr. Wang Hongxing, Director of the Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee; and Mr. Xu Zhiqiang, Chairman of the Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference.
At the venue, Mr. Lucas Meyer, Mr. Xu Huadong, and others jointly performed the keg-tapping ceremony to officially launch the carnival. Amidst the chorus of “Cheers!” from the crowd, the 2025 20th Taicang Rothenburg Beer Carnival officially commenced.
A retrospective video commemorating the Carnival's 20th anniversary was screened during the opening ceremony, revisiting its growth and evolution over two decades and capturing the enduring passion and warmth that transcends time. Mr. Lucas Meyer and Mr. Richard Zhang, Chairman of the Taicang Roundtable, delivered speeches. They praised Taicang as a model of Sino-German cooperation, noting that the Beer Carnival has become a bridge and bond for promoting cultural and economic exchanges between China and Germany. It dissolves Sino-German boundaries, allows German flair to flourish, and helps Taicang's cooperation with Germany bear more fruit.
The inaugural theme night—TRT Night: “Sailing Together, Brewing Prosperity”—kicked off the carnival with full German flair. German brass ensembles, dancers, and bands delivered electrifying performances, while suckling pig displays and beer-drinking contests ignited the atmosphere... Attendees savored German cuisine, sipped German beer, and immersed themselves in this annual feast for the senses—a triple celebration of sight, sound, and taste.
This year's Beer Carnival runs from August 26 to August 30, spanning five days. Throughout the event, themed nights including TRT Night, Talent Night, Soccer Night, Qixi Night, and the Closing Ceremony will unfold in succession. Rothenburg Street has transformed into a carnival market, featuring over 50 stalls offering German delicacies, local snacks, handmade crafts, and trendy goods. Let the summer nights be filled with light-hearted revelry and joy as Taicang joins the world in celebrating beer.
